Peter Lang (*1965), currently one of the most renowned landscape painters is famous for his exceptional projects. After his painting trip to Patagonia in 2010/2011, he worked from spring 2012 on the North Atlantic island of Iceland. Servus TV and Arte both televised a report about his artwork.

He captured the northern lights for a complete year in Hellissandur and transformed them into his paintings, despite the cold north winds. Large and middle formatted paintings of unbelievable chromaticity and brilliance convey the eclectic reflections of the vastness of Iceland’s country to the observer. He embraces the country’s extremes with his uncompromising painting technique. Paintings of radiant white to mystic dark developed under the influence of midnight sun and polar nights, storm and dead calm, lava and snow, rapidly changing constant light and long darkness. The more unusual and further the zones are, the more fascinating they are and inspire him to pictorial abstractions, perfectly balanced distillates of colour, light and space.

Strictly speaking, Peter Lang’s paintings not only highly value the tenderness and abundance of Iceland’s colours: also his local encounters with people as well as the appeal of Iceland’s culture become perceptible. Poems by Sigfus Almarsson and texts by Àrmann Reynisson can be found in the new publication that describe and vouch the dialogue.

A specially designed translucent painting pavilion based on a commercial overseas shipping container was used, as already in Patagonia, that acted as a studio, living quarters and safety for the artist.

After the completion of an artistic stay over a period of several months, the works created there have been brought back to Germany and will be shown in an expansive exhibition tour in many cities.

We are happy to present selected, fine works in changing presentations until January 2014 and would like to welcome you to Peter Lang’s exhibition.
