Jupp Linssen - Im Raum

May 8th - June 28th 2014

Jupp Linssen (*1957) has been established in the international art market since the 80s. His artistic concept finds it’s identity in a distinctive and consequent picture language. Jupp Linssen’s works over the past 30 years has affected a wide, groundbreaking understanding of painting. Exalted over any classification in a category, his headstrong and rough works refer to a very clear position, for what they stand for – and they persist.

Compact and accurately Stefan Skowron just recently wrote about Linssen’s work: “Jupp Linssen’s works are best described as lifting a painting out of its usual two dimensions, even physically, into a third dimension and thus giving it seizable metaphysical depth and meaning, to build a real barrier out of a sensual one in the space of the observer.

He layers material in a broken rhythm on top of each other, creates airy volume out of non-artistic matter and disavows in this way the academic tradition of art. The shapely is unimportant in this respect for Jupp Linssen, as the corpus of the picture is not crammed into a frame, the surface is not smooth and the material does not have to be new. His works are about plausibility. They do not keep their origin secret. They evoke memories. They play with romantic elements as well as with pragmatic necessities. The aim is to not let art remove itself from reality, but becomes a part of it.”

Jupp Linssen lives and works in Aachen and the Netherlands. His works are seen in international solo and group exhibitions and are part of renowned collections such as for example in Deutscher Bundestag, Berlin; Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen; Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst, Aachen; Ludwig Museum, Peking; Ludwig Museum, Petersburg und Prinz-Max-Palais, Karlsruhe.
